The Northern Land Council (NLC) is seeking an experienced Compliance and Risk professional to strengthen corporate governance and embed best‐practice compliance across the organisation. Organisational (or business/operational) risk refers to internal threats from processes, systems, or people that hinder operations.
About the role
Reporting to the Governance, Compliance and Risk Manager, this position is responsible for effective monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement of compliance and risk outcomes across the NLC. You will lead the implementation of the NLC's Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Compliance Management Framework, ensuring alignment with legislative obligations, corporate planning, and reporting requirements. The role also oversees internal audit work‐plans, complaints management, gifts and benefits registers, and compliance health checks, while developing strategies to address non‐compliance and high‐risk matters. This position works collaboratively across the organisation, providing advice, training, and coaching to managers and staff.

Qualifications
* Bachelor degree in Commerce, Law, Business, Risk Management, Governance or related discipline.
* Minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience in governance, compliance, risk, fraud or complaints management.
* Minimum of five (5) years' leadership experience.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation and policies in complex compliance roles.
* Strong judgement and decision‐making skills, with experience working in politically sensitive environments.

* Base Salary $115,195 plus 15% superannuation paid on base and DA.
* Salary sacrificing up to $15,900 + meal entertainment and holiday accommodation benefits up to $2,650 per year.
* District allowance of up to $4,844 per annum for individuals with dependents and $2,678 without dependents.
* Generous leave provisions: 5 weeks annual leave, leaving loading, 18 days personal leave.

* Upon completion of 12 months of service an annual airfare with a net (in hand) value of $3,177.
