Position Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated mental health nurse with a strong interest in and commitment to improving the mental health of children and young people to join the dynamic and supportive Northern Beaches Child and Youth Mental Health Service at Brookvale Community Health Centre.

What You'll Be Doing

The CYMHS CNC is an expert in the field of Child and Youth Mental Health Nursing who will provide leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of the mental health nursing care provided to children and young people (aged 0 – 18 years). The CYMHS CNC also consults on matters relating to the safe and appropriate use of nursing practices for this client group.

The CYMHS CNC is primarily responsible for ensuring that specialised CYMHS assessment, formulation and care planning is provided in an effective and timely manner for young people presenting to the NB CYMHS service experiencing acute mental health distress. Additionally, the CNC will provide expert consultation regarding specialist care planning and the delivery of nursing care for children and young people admitted to hospital inpatient settings for mental health care.

The CYMHS CNC will formulate and implement policy, guide practice development, lead clinical quality improvement initiatives and engage in education and research activities. The CNC is responsible for the provision of clinical supervision to nursing staff and acts as a role model in the provision of nursing care for children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties. This role may at times also be required to provide ongoing therapeutic interventions in the capacity of a primary or secondary clinician to a small caseload of allocated clients, as delegated by the Clinical Lead.

Qualifications and Experience

* Authority to practice as a Registered Nurse from AHPRA with at least 5 years full‐time equivalent post‐registration experience, approved postgraduate qualifications within child and adolescent mental health or related speciality and/or substantial relevant clinical experience within a CYMHS setting.
* Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead evidence based nursing practice in the assessment, care planning and care delivery to children and young people with complex mental health issues. Ability to provide expert clinical consultancy, networking and communicating across a range of key internal and external stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with a range of children and young people aged from 0-18 years people and their parents/ carers, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
