At CommBank, we're looking for a Senior Staff Data Scientist (AI & General Model Validation) who blends deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to ensure our models are robust, reliable, and ready for the future.
This is a Permanent Full Time opportunity within the Model Risk & Validation team.
Responsibilities
* Design and execute comprehensive validation plans to assess model performance, compliance, and risk
* Drive robust validation processes and deploy analytics tools across the model ecosystem
* Embed robust risk management practices and influence the Group's broader AI and transformation strategies
* Lead and mentor the team, promoting modern analytics tooling and best practices in technical communication
* Engage with model developers and business units to ensure transparency and alignment; present insights to technical forums, governance committees, and regulatory meetings
Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience developing, evaluating and/or validating ML/AI, Gen-AI and/or statistical-based models
* Experience with Gen-AI techniques (e.g., RAG, prompt engineering) and orchestration tools (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph)
* Strong programming skills (Python, R, SQL, Spark); familiarity with TensorFlow and PyTorch; experience with GitHub
* Experience with project planning and task allocation for project-based teams
* Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
* Experience with platforms like AWS SageMaker, AWS Bedrock, or H2O.ai is a plus
* Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
