We work closely with our clients to understand their needs and deliver a full value chain of services, providing sustainable solutions across major projects worldwide.The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Materials Engineer to join our Materials Technology team based on the Gold Coast or in Brisbane.In this role, you will contribute to a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects across a variety of sectors (water & wastewater, transport, ports and maritime) ranging from medium-scale works to complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. With a minimum of 7+ years' experience, you will play a key role in strengthening our capability in materials performance, durability, and condition assessment.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide materials and durability engineering services across SMEC's Queensland operationsConduct condition assessments and diagnostic testing of structures, including reinforced concrete, steel and timberPrepare high-quality inspection reports and repair specificationsContribute to the growth of the team's capability in asset remediation, structural assessment and materials engineeringDeliver contract administration and site supervision on remedial projectsMentor and support junior team membersBuild and maintain strong client relationshipsSupport the preparation of EOIs and proposals to secure new workEnsure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required standardsMaintain compliance with SMEC technical standards and quality systemsAbout YouBachelor's Degree in Materials, Structural Engineering or related disciplineRPEQ or ability to obtainProven experience developing durability plans, service life modelling, materials specifications and selection adviceStrong capability in condition assessment, inspection reporting and remediation designExperience providing construction-phase supportAbility to manage multiple projects and prioritiesWell-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build client relationshipsExperience contributing to successful proposals and business developmentWhy SMEC?At SMEC, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace where people feel valued and supported.
