About the Role
The Senior Ranger Program Coordinator will play a central role in leading the WYAC Caring for Country Unit and bringing this new program to life. While the program is new, you will work closely with and have the support of the Wajarri team to oversee hands‐on field operations, mentor Rangers and Trainees, and deliver practical, on‐country programs.
This role offers the chance to:
* Lead and support the Junior Ranger Program and mentor Rangers, Trainee Rangers, and seasonal staff through practical, on‐country work.
* Plan and deliver conservation, environmental monitoring, and cultural heritage programmes.
* Ensure field operations are safe, sustainable, and culturally respectful.
* Protect biodiversity and Country while creating meaningful employment and learning pathways for Wajarri people.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
* Lead and coordinate hands‐on ranger activities across Wajarri Country, including field programmes, conservation work, environmental monitoring, and cultural heritage support.
* Support and mentor Rangers, Trainee Rangers, and seasonal staff, as well as the Junior Ranger Program, fostering practical skills, confidence, and teamwork.
* Manage field logistics, including vehicles, equipment, communications, safety systems and PPE, ensuring all field activities comply with cultural protocols and land access requirements.
* Collaborate with Land Committees, Elders and community members to integrate community and youth programmes and facilitate intergenerational knowledge sharing.
* Maintain established community connections to effectively engage with Land Committees, Elders and cultural custodians whilst supporting community and youth programmes.
* Promote safe working practices, WHS compliance, and a culture of respect, wellbeing and care for all team members.
* Maintain accurate reporting to WYAC management, Land Committees, auditors and funding bodies to support programme oversight and growth.
Who We're Looking For
* Experience in land management, ranger programmes or environmental projects, with hands‐on field experience.
* Leadership experience supporting or mentoring teams in practical, on‐country work.
* Understanding of Aboriginal cultural governance and respect for Traditional Owners.
* Experience planning and delivering fieldwork in remote or challenging environments.
* Strong organisational skills, including scheduling field activities and managing logistics.
* Knowledge of workplace health and safety in field environments.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to build respectful relationships.
* Current C‐class driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively.
Preferred
* Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity with a connection to Country and community.
* Qualifications or experience in land, environment, natural resource or cultural heritage management.
* Experience with Aboriginal organisations or ranger programmes.
* Skills for remote work: 4WD driving, drones, mapping/GIS, chemical handling or chainsaw use.
* Experience managing grant‐funded programmes.
Desirable Qualifications & Training
* Certificate IV, Diploma or equivalent experience in related fields.
* First Aid / Remote First Aid.
* Fire management and field safety competencies.
