Full-time, 100% FTE fixed-term position from 20 July 2026 until 26 February 2027

Base salary will be in the range $66,144 - $67,694 + 17% super (HEW Level 2)

We are seeking a reliable, energetic and motivated Animal Attendant to support the care, welfare and day-to-day management of animals housed within the School of Veterinary Science facilities at the UQ Gatton campus. Working within a collaborative and purpose-driven environment, this role plays a vital contribution to animal wellbeing while supporting teaching, learning and continuing education activities that shape the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Key responsibilities will include:

Providing high standards of animal care, welfare, hygiene and husbandry across kennels, condominiums, isolation units and associated facilities.

Preparing animal diets, managing laundry and maintaining clean, safe and compliant work environments.

Assisting with the movement, handling and care of animals, and maintaining accurate records and documentation.

Supporting undergraduate practical classes, workshops and seminars, including providing instruction in animal welfare, husbandry and behaviour under academic supervision.

About You

You will bring a genuine commitment to animal welfare and enjoy working as part of a supportive, hands-on team in a teaching and clinical environment. You will demonstrate:

Completion of Certificate II in Animal Studies, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.

Practical experience in the handling, restraint and care of animals, particularly dogs and cats (experience with chickens desirable).

A compassionate, safety-conscious approach to animal care and wellbeing.

The ability to maintain accurate records and complete associated paperwork.

Basic computer literacy and the ability to follow established procedures.

Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with staff and students.

The ability to work autonomously, use initiative and manage routine tasks effectively.

Large animal experience with cattle, horses, pigs or sheep will be highly regarded.
