Key Responsibilities:

* Provide administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Executive Team, and Elected Members, including researching background information and drafting reports and briefings.

* Lead the preparation and updating of key strategic documents such as the Regional Plan, Annual Report, Strategic Plans, and Infrastructure Reports.
", "
* Advise on and implement improved administrative systems, policies, and procedures across departments.
", "
* Develop templates and tools to streamline administration in coordination with relevant departments.
", "
* Oversee reception and supervise Customer Service Officers as needed.
", "
* Provide relief on reception duties and other tasks as required.

Website, Media & Publications:

* Maintain and monitor the Council's website and social media platforms to ensure information is current, accurate, and professionally presented.
", "
* Coordinate and produce internal and external publications including newsletters, press releases, and Council reports.
", "
* Prepare speeches, talking points, and briefings for Council executives and Elected Members.
", "
* Research and draft media responses, monitor coverage, and report on key media and communication issues.
", "
* Collaborate with the CEO and Mayor to provide accurate and timely information for public interviews and speeches.

Community Engagement & Event Coordination:

* Plan and coordinate Council events including Australia Day, Citizenship Ceremonies, NAIDOC Week, International Women's Day, and other community initiatives.

Administration and Media Officer PD - Full Time Permanent

Key Accountabilities:

* Provide high-level, confidential administrative support to the CEO, Executive Team, and Elected Members.

* Manage Council's digital and print communications, including website and social media updates, media releases, newsletters, and speechwriting, to ensure accurate and timely information sharing.
", "
* Lead the development, review, and formatting of key strategic documents such as the Regional Plan, Annual Report, and Strategic Infrastructure Plans, ensuring alignment with Council objectives and legislative requirements.
", "
* Plan and deliver regional events and public engagement initiatives, including seeking sponsorship, coordinating logistics, and ensuring inclusive participation across the Barkly region.
", "
* Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders, and community representatives, providing support across departments and contributing to projects through travel to remote communities as needed.
", "
* Contribute to the successful implementation and fulfillment of the Regional Plan's objectives.

* Annual Salary: $87,014.91 per annum ($3,346.73 gross per fortnight)

* Zone Allowance: Tennant Creek Zone Allowance $1.8900 per ordinary hour

* Experience in developing and implementing effective media and communication strategies

* Proven ability to create quality content for digital platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and public documents

* Knowledge of office administration with strong organisational skills and attention to detail

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure

* Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant communication tools

* Strong teamwork skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders

Desirable Criteria – Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

* Qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field

* Experience in local government or the public sector, with knowledge of relevant legislation

* Experience working with multicultural and remote Indigenous communities

* Familiarity with systems such as InfoCouncil, InfoXpert, and web content management tools
