About the business/role/team
The Payments Settlements Department is responsible for the settlement of interbank obligations arising from the exchange of payments in Australia, the conduct of Exchange Settlement Accounts and the settlement of the Reserve Bank's own trading activities.
As part of its responsibilities, the Department operates critical national infrastructure supporting the Australian financial system, including the Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System (RITS).
Settlements section is one of Payment Settlements core functions and is responsible for settling the Bank's own market transactions and high value transactions for the Bank's overseas clients and government agency customers.
This section is deemed very critical given the nature of the daily operational work and there is a requirement to perform work on a rotational shift basis as follows (though these may vary slightly depending on operational needs and pressure):
* Day shift – 7:30am – 4:18pm
* Mid Shift - 9:00am - 17:24pm
* Winter afternoon Shift – 10:00am – 6:30pm
* Summer afternoon Shift – 12:00pm – 8:30pm
* Saturday (monthly) – 1 hour approximately from home
* There is also a potential requirement to work overtime or irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays with minimal notice.
About the role
* Provide effective operational, administrative, first and second level customer support for business systems.
* Ensure that daily processing of files, transactions and other operational tasks are completed.
* Provide business operations expertise and guidance to external and internal customers in relation to business processes.
* Conduct regular reviews of business operations to ensure operational controls are efficient and remain relevant.
* Monitor systems and liaise with stakeholders to facilitate early detection and resolution of issues.
* Ensure that activities comply with industry regulations and manage fraud and risk consistent with the Bank's policies.
* Assist with the planning, co-ordination, testing and verification of system changes.
* Maintain appropriate contingency arrangements for systems/operations/customers/stakeholders.
About you
We're looking for someone who is adaptable, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this critical role you will possess:
* Experience in a critical day to day operational environment involving tight deadlines.
* Strong attention to detail and procedural accuracy.
* Experience in back office or banking systems and functions.
* Knowledge of (or interest in) high value payments and settlements practices in both foreign exchange and/or debt market securities.
* Ability to commit to rotating shift patterns and work from site.
* Experience in RITS, Austraclear, Swift or ISO 20022 message standards would be favourably viewed.
