The role
This client is the leading provider of integrated geospatial, utilities, and asset maintenance solutions. As they enter an exciting new phase of expansion, we are seeking a commercially driven and highly experienced General Manager to take full accountability for the utilities side of the business. Working in close partnership with the Managing Director/CEO, you will own business performance, financial outcomes, and operational delivery across key utilities divisions, including utility locating and mapping, utility investigations, maintenance and non‐destructive testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Financial Leadership: take full ownership of P&L, budgets and financial performance for the utilities streams; manage pipeline, utilisation and profitability; ensure major utility projects are tracked accurately and delivered in line with expected margins.
- Business Growth Strategy: translate strategic direction into executable outcomes, identify and capitalize on market opportunities; manage tenders and prepare fee proposals, lead estimates for NDD works.
- Operations Delivery: ensure seamless, high‐quality delivery across all utility service lines; align resources, vehicles and equipment with client demand; oversee the successful execution of complex, multi‐disciplinary utility projects.
- Leadership Mentoring: lead, mentor and develop technical network leaders; build capability in business development, client engagement and cross‐functional collaboration; maintain an 85% team retention rate and foster an inspiring environment.
- Governance & Risk: provide oversight of WHS, quality and environmental compliance frameworks; actively identify and manage commercial risks; ensure all safety processes are rigorously followed on high‐risk sites.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years senior leadership experience within the utilities, civil construction, NDD or related infrastructure sectors.
- Minimum Diploma‐level qualifications in Civil Construction, Project Management or a similar field.
- Commercial acumen: demonstrated success with full P&L ownership, managing multiple business units and balancing strategic goals with day‐to‐day operational delivery.
- Client stakeholder engagement: proven experience working collaboratively with Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors and major utility providers.
- Technical familiarity: prior experience or robust familiarity with asset locating, utility mapping, NDD techniques or CCTV services is highly advantageous.
- Leadership presence: strong team leadership skills with the ability to manage complex situations with sensitivity and drive continuous improvement.
