Australasian Groundwater And Environmental (Age) Consultants
Posted: 20 January
Offer description

Some consultants wait a whole career for an opening like this. Others step in earlier, ready to take the lead. Australasian Groundwater & Environmental (AGE) Consultants has the technical depth, mentoring, and organisational maturity to support an emerging leader or seasoned manager.
Utilise your management capability to advance the region
Value is placed on leadership time, so you can plan, not just react
Genuine flexibility, stability and tangible benefits
Region Manager
This role combines people leadership, commercial accountability, and client-facing responsibility across the North Queensland region.
Real authority to grow and shape the region
Competitive package with incentives and relocation support
Employee-owned, independent consultancy with depth and credibility
An established, high-performing hydrogeology team
AGE Consultants is seeking a North Queensland Region Manager to lead a capable and engaged team of groundwater and environmental management specialists. Ongoing growth in infrastructure, resources, and water security provides an exciting runway beyond the current healthy pipeline.
Technical credibility is helpful, but it is not the core requirement for this role. AGE has more than 40 hydrogeologists, geochemists, and groundwater modellers nationally. Your core value will come from leading people, running the business well, winning work, and making sound commercial decisions.
What you will do
Grow the region
Nurture current clients by building trusted relationships with them. Open new projects and revenue streams, utilising AGE's specialist capability in groundwater, geochemistry, and numerical modelling.
Lead the team
Support, coach, and stretch people across career stages. Build capability. Maintain high engagement and a culture that is positive, accountable, and confident.
Run the commercial side
Own revenue, costs, utilisation, and regional performance. Your target utilisation rate supports the time and space for leadership and sustainable regional strategy, not just project delivery.
Guide delivery
Ensure work is well scoped and delivered to a high standard. Step in when leadership is needed to keep projects and people on track. Spend time on site as needed with clients and staff.
Prioritise safety
Provide visible and practical safety leadership that considers work across remote and complex environments.
Engage externally
Represent AGE through engagement with schools, universities, and local natural resource groups such as the Healthy Waters Partnership for the Dry Tropics.
Reporting line
You report to a collaborative, commercially astute Head of Operations and Finance and work closely with senior technical leaders across the entire organisation.
Extra Benefits
Genuine flexibility, work-from-anywhere options, career breaks, and additional unpaid leave
A formal company-wide mentorship program
5% of time set aside for professional development
Four additional paid annual leave days each year
Reward and recognition program
Competitive salary
Paid parental leave and a wellbeing allowance
About You
has leadership experience in water resources, environmental science, or adjacent technical disciplines
builds engagement and sustains a positive team culture
drives client relationships and business development
leads with clarity, empathy, and confidence
applies pragmatic judgement to regional challenges
Resides in Australia with full working rights
Why AGE Consultants
AGE is an employee-owned, fully independent consultancy with a proven reputation across more than 2,000 projects in Australia and overseas. The business supports long term growth without internal politics or stalled progression. Leadership time is valued and balanced with realistic billable expectations.
Team and Location
AGE's directors are working principals who are accessible and hands-on. The leadership group is collaborative, highly credentialed, and ego-free. Spanning early career to principal consultants, the Townsville team is engaged, social, and ready for a leader who will support them, challenge them, and grow the region with intent.
Townsville offers a welcoming community, coastal living, and access to the Great Barrier Reef. This role is about leading people and a region in a technically rich environment. North Queensland offers a scientific playground for environmental specialists, with complex fractured rock aquifers, dynamic alluvial systems, and the interaction between groundwater and iconic tropical ecosystems. Every project presents new technical puzzles, from major infrastructure to agriculture, mining, and environmental protection. Your leadership sets direction, creates the conditions, and supports technical experts to do their best work. Candidates with strong consulting leadership backgrounds from adjacent disciplines are encouraged to apply.
