Cloud Automation Engineer – Azure
Macquarie Technology Group is seeking a Cloud Automation Engineer – Azure to join our Cloud Services team in Sydney. The role focuses on designing, building, and automating Azure environments through code, ensuring repeatable, scalable, and compliant solutions for our customers.

The Opportunity
You will be part of a new, growing capability, working on cutting-edge automation and AI projects. Your work will help customers modernise their cloud operations by streamlining environment set-up, monitoring, and ongoing management.
Responsibilities
Bring deep knowledge of Azure cloud platform and its services.
Automate infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and scripting.
Work with customers and the operational team to manage backlog, execute tasks and track time.
Apply a site-reliability mindset to deliver well-architected, governed and scalable solutions.
Integrate IaC and scripting into DevOps pipelines for repeatable outcomes.
Maintain operations manuals and documentation for delivered solutions.
Collaborate with Product & Architecture teams to mature our internal knowledge base and IaC library.
Leverage and integrate AI within delivered solutions where appropriate.
Required Experience & Skills
5-10 years in SRE, DevOps, or Cloud Automation roles.
5+ years delivering IaaS and PaaS solutions in Microsoft Azure, including VM, networking, storage, and migration.
2-3 years building IaC for cloud solutions, proficient with Git and CI/CD in GitHub Actions & Azure DevOps.
Strong experience in Python, PowerShell scripting and Azure Resource Manager templates.
Ability to write clear work instructions for other engineers.
Desirable: experience with Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and data pipeline development.
Technical Skills
Compute, Networking, Storage & Identity services in Azure.
Infrastructure as Code tools – Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates.
CI/CD platforms – GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps.
Monitoring & governance – Azure Monitor, Policy, Blueprints.
Knowledge of Azure AI Services, Synapse Analytics, and data & AI products.
Operating systems – advanced Microsoft Server and Unix/Linux.
Agile tools – Jira, Azure DevOps, GitHub Issues, ServiceNow.
Software development fundamentals – .NET Core (C#), Python, Java.
