Examiner Newspapers is an independent local newspaper which has been published weekly for more than 33 years covering local news, views and issues across Perth's south eastern suburbs.
We currently have a vacancy for a permanent part-time journalist in our busy newsroom, located in Kelmscott.
Job tasks and responsibilities: The successful applicant will be covering local, state and federal government issues, general politics, education, crime, entertainment, sport, local community events and a range of other issues.
Skills and experience: We are looking for someone who is reliable and can deliver hard news on a weekly basis and who can build a rapport with the community quickly. A knowledge of issues within the Armadale and Serpentine Jarrahdale local government catchment areas would be an advantage, but not essential. A degree in journalism and some prior media experience will be viewed favourably. Knowledge and experience in website publishing and social media is also an advantage.
Job benefits: Great working environment and family friendly within a dedicated team. Mileage allowance. Job hours are generally 9am - 5pm Monday to Thursday. Some out of hours work may be required with time off in lieu. The office is closed on weekends and public holidays, including a paid two-week break over the Christmas and New Year period to allow staff to have time off with their families.
