OverviewThe Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) team at NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in aeronautics, space power, and propulsion test facilities. We are currently seeking a Quality Assurance Inspector in the Manufacturing Division of the Facilities, Test, and Manufacturing Directorate at NASA GRC.
ResponsibilitiesFunction of Position: Serves as a primary Quality Inspector in the Manufacturing Division of the Facilities, Test, and Manufacturing Directorate at NASA GRC. This role involves incoming, in-process, and final inspection of hardware to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction. Interacts with branch chiefs, quality, safety and mission assurance, design and manufacturing engineers, project managers, manufacturing leads, and technicians.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform inspections (in-process, finished product, First Article) using various test and measurement equipment and software, including Zeiss & Calypso, coordinate measuring machines, optical comparators, laser trackers, calipers, micrometers, and other gauges to detect defects and deviations.
Conduct incoming material/hardware inspections, including visual and dimensional checks, and review supplier certificates and quality control test results for conformance.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, technical information, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to perform proper inspections.
Accurately document inspection results using controlled forms, logs, and reports (e.g., NASA GRC 987, 989).
Maintain and upload inspection records, forms, certificates of conformance in files and databases.
Contribute to Division standards (GLP-FF-8072.1C, GLWI-FF-8730.1A) to ensure compliance with ISO9001/AS9100 and NASA standards.
Accept or reject finished products, complete hardware condition tags, and support continuous improvement and corrective actions.
Manage bond control and segregation of non-conforming hardware/material.
Determine calibration status and maintain calibration logs for Measurement and Test Equipment (MTE).
Evaluate tooling accuracy used in manufacturing, understanding contributing factors and impacts.
Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with NASA GRC regulations.
Communicate effectively with team members and customers, demonstrating professionalism and teamwork.
Perform additional tasks such as data entry into quality databases.
Qualifications
Technical or vocational training in Manufacturing with a minimum of 5 years' experience as a quality assurance inspector or Journeyman T&D Maker. An associate degree in manufacturing engineering technology is a plus but not required.
Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
Knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100 and OSHA requirements relevant to manufacturing.
Experience with computer-based reporting systems for inspection documentation.
Good judgment and ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
Self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
