Project Overview
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services to customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities, including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. The business unit has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, and execution units in other regions.
Current projects include copper/gold concentrators with associated ROM feed, ore handling, processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure such as water supply, power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, temporary and construction accommodation villages.
Job Summary
As project architect, you will plan, develop, design, coordinate, and review architectural work on large mining sector projects. Responsibilities include preparing discipline estimates and work plans, approving design documents, interpreting regulations, supporting and reviewing third‐party engineering work, facilitating technical discussions, and ensuring designs comply with all applicable regulations and standards.
Major Responsibilities
* Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of architectural work for small‐size projects or assignments.
* Prepare original design layouts, details, drawings, and specifications.
* Develop and interpret design criteria and specifications for complex architectural infrastructure.
* Analyze conflicts in design requirements, propose solutions, and assess unconventional materials and techniques.
* Assist in preparing cost estimates, quantity take‐offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.
* Prepare letters to vendors and clients; review bid analyses and recommend award decisions.
* Co‐ordinate procurement, subcontract requisition documents, and perform technical bid evaluations.
* Coordinate architectural efforts with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
* Provide guidance to other architectural personnel when delegated.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and years of relevant experience in architectural design for industrial or mining projects.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of Australian building practices, standards, and codes.
* Understanding of architectural building design for functionality, especially in industrial projects, and ability to adapt to heavy mining industry contexts.
* Strong adaptability and flexibility for a diverse range of projects, often located in remote areas.
* Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD platforms; willingness to learn MicroStation and ProjectWise CAD management used by Bechtel.
* Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel and Word, and experience using the Aconex document management system.
* Ability to develop practical, economical, and functional building and facility solutions, and to work with procurement and estimating teams on pricing and material quantifications.
* Ability to collaborate with multi‐disciplinary teams, with an emphasis on civil and structural interfaces.
