Overview

The Bookkeeper will play a critical role in managing Cluster's day-to-day financial records, ensuring compliance with Australian taxation laws, and supporting management with accurate, timely financial information. This position is central to maintaining strong internal controls, supporting business growth toward $3.5M+ annual revenue, and ensuring smooth operations across multiple service lines (cleaning, demolition, maintenance, property services).


Key Responsibilities

* Manage daily bookkeeping in Xero (migration from MYOB as required).
* Enter, reconcile, and verify all bank transactions, payments, receipts, and payroll journals.
* Accounts Payable & Receivable – Process supplier invoices, purchase orders, subcontractor claims, and staff reimbursements.
* Generate, issue, and follow up on client invoices through Xero and ServiceM8.
* Monitor debtor balances, implement reminders, and escalate overdue accounts.
* Payroll & Superannuation – Process weekly/fortnightly payroll for ~50 staff (mix of full-time, part-time, casual, ABN contractors).
* Manage superannuation payments in line with Cluster's SOP and ATO obligations.
* Maintain staff entitlements (leave, overtime, allowances).
* Compliance & Reporting – Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, PAYG, and GST returns.
* Ensure compliance with ATO, Fair Work, and South Australian tax/record-keeping requirements.
* Assist with external audits and maintain ISO 9001 financial documentation standards.
* Management Support – Provide monthly financial reports (P&L, cash flow forecast, variance analysis).
* Support the Director and GM in budget planning and financial forecasting.
* Maintain asset registers, depreciation schedules, and financing agreements.
* Process Improvement – Assist in improving systems integration between ServiceM8 and Xero .
* Develop efficient workflows for approvals, payments, and reporting.
* Contribute to Cluster's culture of innovation and continuous improvement.


Key Skills & Attributes

Mandatory Technical Skills

* Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards and taxation laws.
* Proficiency in Xero (MYOB knowledge advantageous).
* Experience with payroll processing for a 40–50 person workforce.
* Solid understanding of BAS, PAYG, GST, superannuation, and EOFY reporting.

Preferred Experience

* Background in construction, property services, or labour-hire industries.
* Familiarity with ServiceM8 integration and workflow management.
* Experience working within ISO-compliant systems.

Personal Qualities

* Highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive.
* Ability to work independently and under deadlines.
* Strong communication skills (liaising with management, operations, and external accountants).
* Integrity, discretion, and a strong sense of responsibility.


Qualifications

* Minimum Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (or higher).
* BAS Agent registration (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of commencement).
* 3+ years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, preferably with multi-entity or multi-division businesses.
* Australian work rights (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work visa).


Performance Indicators

* Accuracy of reconciliations and reporting (≥ 98%).
* Timely completion of BAS, payroll, and super obligations.
* Debtors >30 days kept under 5% of total receivables.
* Management reporting delivered by the agreed monthly deadline.
* Successful support in financial audits and ISO compliance reviews.


Salary & Conditions

* Salary: Negotiable, aligned with skills and experience.
* Superannuation: 11.5% in line with legislation.
* Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
* Location: Adelaide HQ (Flinders Park), with flexibility for hybrid work as required.
