Lawyer / Solicitor – General Practice, Commercial Law & Litigation
5+ Years PAE | Westmeadows, Victoria
Tohme Lawyers is seeking an experienced and motivated Lawyer/Solicitor with 5+ years post-admission experience to join our growing general practice firm based in Westmeadows, Victoria. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable practitioner with broad general practice experience, particularly in commercial law and litigation, who is confident managing matters autonomously while still having access to mentorship and support from the Principal.
About the Role
The successful candidate will work across a diverse range of matters, with a particular focus on:
* Commercial law
* Commercial and civil litigation
* General advisory work
* Estate planning and deceased estates
* Employment law
* Family law and criminal law, where required
The role will suit a lawyer who enjoys variety, is comfortable taking ownership of files, and can provide practical, commercially focused advice to clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage your own caseload from initial instructions through to completion.
* Advise clients on a range of commercial, litigation and general practice matters.
* Draft correspondence, pleadings, agreements, advice, court documents and other legal documentation.
* Appear in courts and tribunals where appropriate.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships.
* Work autonomously while collaborating with the Principal and the broader team.
* Contribute to the continued growth and development of the firm.
Essential Criteria
* Minimum 5+ years PAE as an Australian legal practitioner.
* Strong experience in commercial law and litigation.
* General practice experience and the ability to work across multiple practice areas.
* Ability to manage files independently and confidently from start to finish.
* Strong drafting, communication and negotiation skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and sound professional judgment.
* Ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities effectively.
* A practical, client-focused and commercially minded approach.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in complex litigation or commercial disputes.
* Experience using legal practice management platforms such as Smokeball and the Microsoft Office Suite.
* Ability to supervise or mentor junior staff and support staff.
* Existing referral networks or an interest in business development.
* Any specialised legal expertise that would complement the firm's existing practice areas.
