About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Governance Lead to provide strategic leadership of research governance across the Institute and to ensure the highest standards of integrity, compliance, and risk‐based assurance across all research activities. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Animals and Research Integrity (Governance), the Governance Lead has organisation‐wide accountability for research governance strategy and oversight, spanning pre‐clinical research, clinical trials, biobanks, and clinically focused research.This senior role provides high‐level advice to the Research Governance & Integrity Committee, Executive, and researchers, and ensures alignment with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, the National Statement, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and relevant regulatory requirements.
What You'll Do
* Provide senior leadership and expert advice on research governance across all Institute research activities
* Lead and maintain Institute‐wide research governance frameworks, policies, SOPs, and assurance processes
* Chair and support governance committees, including the Research Governance & Integrity Committee
* Design and deliver risk‐based audit, monitoring, and compliance programs across the research portfolio
* Oversee governance of investigator‐initiated and commercially sponsored clinical trialsLead the review and governance of clinical trial sponsorships, including risk assessment and approvals
* Support research integrity matters and corrective and preventative actions
* Partner with Legal Services on contractual and regulatory requirements for clinical studies
* Build strong relationships with internal researchers and key external partners, including hospital and research institute collaborators
* Promote culturally safe, inclusive, and accessible research practices
* Contribute to capability development, continuous improvement, and resourcing across the Governance function
About You
You are a respected governance professional with extensive experience in research governance, compliance, and/or clinical trials governance within a medical research institute, university, or hospital environment.
You will bring:
* Demonstrated senior‐level expertise in research governance and regulatory compliance
* Strong knowledge of the Australian health and medical research environment
* Proven experience designing and delivering risk‐based assurance frameworks
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Strong judgement, discretion, and the ability to lead complex work programs
* A collaborative leadership style aligned with equity, diversity, and inclusion
