Rural Victoria-based dairy farm is seeking skilled professionals to join their team as Animal Husbandry Technicians, Dairy Farmers, Senior Dairy Cattle Farm Operators and Dairy Cattle Farm Operators.
Job Description
The successful applicants will be responsible for overseeing animal husbandry, feed management and milk harvesting operations. They will also supervise plant equipment and infrastructure maintenance, ensuring compliance with workplace and OH&S legislation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Dairy farmers: Bachelor's degree or 5 years of relevant experience
* Animal husbandry technicians: Diploma or 3 years of relevant experience
* Senior dairy cattle farm operators: Relevant AQF certificate III (or equivalent) and at least two years of recent and relevant work experience
* Dairy cattle farm operators: Relevant AQF certificate II or III (or equivalent) or at least one year full-time recent and relevant work experience
Benefits
A competitive remuneration package between $68,864 to $90,000 plus superannuation will be negotiated based on skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities
Dairy Farmer
* Supervise animal husbandry and feed management
* Manage all dairy cattle, heifers, dry cows, and calves
* Manage plant equipment and infrastructure maintenance
* Achieve agreed budgeted and physical performance targets
* Manage milk harvesting, milk quality and staff rosters
* Ensure compliance with workplace and OH&S legislation
* Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Animal Husbandry Technician
* Assist livestock farmers and farm managers in breeding and raising livestock
* Nutrient management planning
* Arrange supply of vaccines, mineral supplements, and other appropriate animal husbandry supplies
* Organise mating program for 2-year-old
* Select cows for artificial insemination and assist with semen selection
* Apply heat detection aids and identify, record, mark and draft cows on heat
Senior Dairy Cattle Farm Operator
* Plan all aspects of milk production processes including management and coordination of milking shed routines
* Coordinate and implement reproductive programs, including artificial insemination and herd fertility management
* Implement calving procedures, including conducting unsupervised internal assessments to minimise the incidence of still births or injuries to cow or calf
* Plan and manage pastures and crops for livestock production and develop livestock feeding plans
Dairy Cattle Farm Operator
* Read and record instrument information i.e. Milk vat temperatures and cow numbers
* Undertake multiple functions and produce a quality outcome e.g. Farm machinery operation
* Operate milking plant and equipment
* Know general scientific terminology and assist with processes such as machine repair and fertiliser mix design
