Network Engineers
Position Description
CGI is currently seeking multiple Network Engineers to join our growing team in Canberra.
This role supports and works closely with our Satcom Engineers as part of our expanding Space, Defence & Intelligence (SDI) unit, helping deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing satellite communication capabilities.

We work across major European navigation, communication, and earth-observation programmes and specialise in space security and ground control systems.
Our deep expertise in the space sector, combined with our contribution to significant technical advancements, has enabled us to support some of the world's most prestigious space programmes, including Cassini-Huygens, Galileo, Copernicus, Inmarsat 4, MSG, MTG, MTSAT, Rosetta, Skynet, and XMM-Newton.
To date, our software and systems have supported missions for more than 200 satellites.
Your future duties and responsibilities
As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure network infrastructure that underpins satellite communication systems.
You will work in close collaboration with Satcom Engineers to ensure seamless integration between terrestrial networks and satellite systems within a secure operating environment.
Designing, configuring, and maintaining secure network infrastructure supporting Satcom systems
Supporting satellite ground systems by integrating IP networks with satellite communication platforms
Performing network analysis, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation across Satcom and IT environments
Collaborating closely with Satcom Engineers, system engineers, and other cross-functional teams
Ensuring compliance with Defence and security protocols, standards, and accreditation requirements
Assisting with system testing, validation, and operational readiness activities
Preparing and maintaining detailed network and system documentation, including configurations and procedures
Supporting incident response, fault resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
Minimum of 1 year's experience in network engineering or communications environments
Strong understanding of IP networking, routing, switching, and network security principles
Exposure to satellite communications environments, RF concepts, or ground systems (highly desirable)
Experience working with network hardware, virtualised environments, and monitoring tools
Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
Ability to work effectively within a team-based, multidisciplinary environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Active security clearance, or the ability to obtain one
