Principal WHS Advisor
Location: Beerburrum, QLD
Contract Type: Contract until May 2026
Salary: $77 per hour, plus super
Seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Principal WHS Advisor to support the delivery of a major infrastructure project in Queensland. This is a full-time contract role for six months, with a high-profile government agency.
About the Role
This role offers a unique opportunity to provide visible safety leadership across a high-profile infrastructure upgrade project. Based at the Beerburrum site office, adjacent to Beerburrum Train Station, you’ll work closely with project delivery teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safety obligations are met and risks are effectively managed.
You’ll be responsible for implementing and monitoring workplace health and safety assurance processes in line with legislative requirements and government frameworks. The role is field-focused, requiring regular site engagement to verify compliance and drive continuous improvement in safety culture and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on-site safety activities including inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Engage with contractors and partners to ensure safe systems of work are understood and applied
- Respond to incidents, support investigations, and oversee corrective actions
- Provide expert advice on WHS and Safety legislation, standards, and codes of practice
- Translate field insights into clear reports for leadership and governance forums
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives based on field observations and trends
About You
You’re a safety professional who thrives in both field and office environments, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. You bring a proactive mindset, strong communication skills, and a commitment to best practice safety outcomes.
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in Health & Safety, Business, or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Rail Safety National Law, and relevant standards
- Demonstrated experience in WHS management systems and field-based safety leadership
- Background in large-scale rail or infrastructure projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital safety reporting tools
- Right to work in Australia and willingness to undertake a Police Check if successful
Desirable
- Experience with regulatory bodies such as ONRSR and OFSC
- Internal Auditor certification
- ICAM Lead Investigator accreditation
