Several full time, ongoing vacancies are available

Apply your practical skills and tertiary qualifications in Social Work and make a positive difference to the lives of children and their families.

The Department of Children and Families is a multi-functional human services and community-focused agency that works to provide responsive, safe and quality services and programs that empower communities and improve social outcomes for all Territorians.

As a frontline Senior Child Protection Practitioner (P2) you form part of a dedicated team of professionals delivering integrated statutory and non-statutory welfare services to vulnerable children and families. Depending upon your professional experience your duties may include assessing individual, family and community issues, applying appropriate methods of intervention, delivering case work and case management services, undertaking statutory responsibilities and exercising delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act.

As Team Leader (P3) you take leadership of a team of Child Protection Practitioners dedicated to supporting children and families across Central Australia. Your responsibilities include the supervision, training and development of the team, maintaining high levels of services through the provision of professional expertise, and undertaking statutory responsibilities and exercising delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act. Your operational experience will be put to good use as you contribute to the overall management of the office, staff development and community networking and consultation.

To be successful for either roles, you require a tertiary qualification which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Community Workers Association or the Australian Psychological Society or equivalent tertiary qualifications. A strong understanding of the principles and functions of delivering statutory and non-statutory welfare services, conducting strength bases assessments, developing and delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to interpret and apply complex legislation is essential.

In addition, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family and community structures, with the ability to communicate and work in a culturally safe manner.

In return, you will be offered an attractive remuneration package including 12% Superannuation, 6 weeks recreational and 3 weeks personal leave, 17.5% annual leave allowance, generous market and retention allowances, support to grow and develop your career, and the opportunity to enjoy long term employment within the NT Government.

This is a great time to consider moving to Central Australia. Alice Springs (Mparntwe) is the third largest town in the Northern Territory and is situated halfway between Darwin and Adelaide. Situated next to the stunning MacDonnell Ranges and the Red Centre Desert, Alice Springs offers an enviable laidback lifestyle and work life balance that allows you time to explore the unique landscapes, Aboriginal rock art and a host of world‐famous events. The rich multi‐cultural society and unique community spirit makes Alice Springs an easy place to meet people and make new friends. Relocation assistance may be available to successful applicants, and as an additional incentive, the Department also offers all new starters in Central Australia the option of short‐term courtesy accommodation in Alice Springs if needed (subject to availability).
