Overview

Location: Primarily Footscray and Sunshine Hospital, with occasional work at other Western Health sites

Employment Type: Full Time, Fixed Term (12 months), available from 27 October 2025

Salary: Pharmacist Grade 2 (Year 1–4, SX2–SX5)


About The Role

This position is responsible for delivering expert clinical pharmacy services across the perioperative setting. They will work collaboratively with other perioperative staff, including surgical, anaesthetic, nursing, and allied health teams, to ensure the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of medicines. The role plays a key part in optimising medication management throughout the perioperative pathway and supporting best practice initiatives within perioperative care areas.


Key Responsibilities

* Optimise patient outcomes by providing specialised clinical perioperative and pain medicines advice as patients transition through the surgical pathway.
* Support the Senior Pharmacist – Perioperative Services in providing perioperative pharmacy services across Western Health.
* Work collaboratively across the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within the perioperative and surgical settings.
* Promote the quality use of medicines through evidence-based practice and minimise treatment costs by optimising medication prescribing and supply.
* Actively participate in service development, including contributions to departmental projects, research activities, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving perioperative services.
* Assist the Senior Pharmacist – Perioperative Services in orientating clinical pharmacy staff rotating into the Perioperative Pharmacist role.
* Support education, research and operational activities within the Pharmacy Department and Perioperative Services.


About You

* A minimum of 2 years' experience as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting across a range of clinical areas, with experience in surgical, medical and cardiology specialties.
* Sound knowledge and understanding of all relevant aspects of pharmacy services, particularly a demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with AdPha guidelines.
* Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
* Leadership skills and ability to act as a point of reference within a specialty area.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and information technology skills.
* Strong clinical judgement and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to perform under pressure, to meet time constraints and determine work priorities and a high level of organisational skills.
* Enthusiasm in contributing to departmental educational and operational initiatives, including quality improvement activities, audits, and practice-based research.
