About the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (the Commission) was formed on 1 January 2019. We work to improve the lives of older people by maintaining the integrity of the aged care system.

As the single independent regulator of Australian Government aged care services, we offer a variety of interesting and challenging jobs across most capital cities.

It is an exciting time to join the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, with major reforms underway to improve aged care in Australia. You will be contributing to our role as the national regulator to safeguard and protect older Australians receiving aged care services.

Meet some of our people and learn more about the Commission and our Regulatory Strategy on our website

About the Team

The Risk Intake and Inspectorate Group (RIIG) protects older Australians through proportionate response to provider, worker, financial, prudential and provider governance risks. To achieve this outcome, RIIG comprises two functions: Risk Intake and Analysis, that analyses risk and triages the appropriate response escalation; and Inspectorate that undertakes preventative and responsive monitoring of identified risks.

Risk Based Monitoring (Worker Regulation) is a section within RIIG. It is responsible for:

* Detecting and responding to aged care worker (aged care workers and responsible persons) risks, including assessing provider compliance with their obligations to ensure workers are complying with the Aged Care Code of Conduct
* Conducting both targeted and responsive risk-based monitoring of worker risks
* Embedding worker compliance with the Aged Care Code of Conduct across the aged care sector and increasing the accountability of providers for the quality of their workforce
* Building sector confidence in the Commission and fostering improvement in worker regulation.

Purpose of position:

The Senior Inspector – Risk Based Monitoring (Worker Regulation) is responsible for identifying and addressing risks related to aged care workers, ensuring providers meet their obligations and uphold workforce standards. The role involves both field and desk-based monitoring, engaging with workers, older people, and providers to gather evidence, manage risks, and restore trust.

The role supports compliance with the Aged Care Code of Conduct, strengthens provider accountability, and promotes confidence in the Commission's oversight of worker regulation.

As an Authorised Commission Officer under the Aged Care Act 2024, the Senior Inspector has the authority to conduct monitoring with or without consent and exercise a range of regulatory powers.

About the Role

* Lead, or contribute to as part of a team, complex monitoring activities to assess compliance with the Aged Care Code of Conduct through field-based and desk-based engagement with workers, providers, and older people or their representatives using a risk-based approach to prioritising and responding to emerging issues.
* Exercise regulatory powers as an Authorised Commission Officer under the Aged Care Act 2024, including conducting monitoring visits with or without consent and gathering evidence in accordance with legislative requirements.
* Collect and analyse information and evidence, including conducting interviews, to assess non-compliance and identify risk trends in line with the Aged Care Code of Conduct and the Commission's risk management framework to inform regulatory decision-making.
* Prepare high-quality reports for regulatory delegates, which clearly articulate findings, risks, and recommendations for appropriate regulatory action.
* Support targeted worker monitoring programs to assure that compliance and enforcement actions are applied and documented.
* Support worker risk campaigns through effective field-based and desk-based engagement with stakeholders, including workers, providers and older people or their representatives.
* Provide guidance and support to less experienced inspectors and contribute to the development of team capability through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and reviews.
* Undertake additional Inspectorate duties and administrative responsibilities consistent with APS6 classification.
