What does the role entail?
The Production and Quality Coordinator will lead, coordinate and optimise all Fabrication production activities and act as the primary quality officer for the Fab Products division. The role will lead the Production Foremen and the Machines Programmer/Scheduler, overseeing production staff and managing laser programming and scheduling, resolving operational issues as they arise, maintaining quality standards and progressing continuous improvement initiatives.
The Production and Quality Coordinator will bring a strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes including laser cutting, press brake, welding and galvanizing, the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and BOMs, experience using AutoCAD, production/project scheduling tools and Microsoft 365 tools and applications. As this role will have production leadership and quality responsibilities the Production and Quality Coordinator will bring production supervisory experience, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and experience with implementation and maintenance of Quality Management systems to ISO 9001 and/or industry/product specific Australian Standards.
Key responsibilities and breakdown of the role:
Production Management
* Lead and manage the Production Foremen and Machines Programmer/Scheduler.
* Plan, schedule, and monitor daily/weekly production activities to meet delivery commitments.
* Allocate resources efficiently to ensure optimal workflow across fabrication cells.
* Monitor job progress, identify potential delays, and implement corrective actions.
* Resolve operational issues on the shop floor, acting as the first escalation point for production problems.
* Report on weekly production and machine centre performance.
Quality Management (Quality Officer Responsibilities)
* Oversee all aspects of quality control, including inspections, traceability, and documentation.
* Implement and monitor compliance with internal and external quality standards.
* Raise, investigate, and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and implement corrective/preventive actions.
* Conduct audits and reviews to continuously improve quality and reduce rework.
* Support compliance with ISO 9001 (or relevant industry quality standards).
Process Improvement & Reporting
* Identify and implement process improvements in production and quality systems.
* Analyse production and quality data to track KPIs, trends, and potential bottlenecks.
* Prepare reports on production performance, quality metrics, and schedule adherence.
Health, Safety & Environment
* Oversee safe work practices are followed in line with OHS requirements.
* Oversee daily safety checks and enforce PPE compliance.
* Promote waste reduction
Stakeholder Communication
* Act as the primary contact for production and quality matters within Fabricated Products.
* Communicate effectively with internal teams (administration) and external stakeholders (service partners).
What you will need:
Required skills
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and BOMs.
* Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Proven experience in production supervision within a manufacturing environment
* Proficiency with scheduling tools, and MS Office.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience using AutoCAD
* Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes including laser cutting, press brake, welding, and galvanizing
* A valid Australian or International Driver's Licence
Desirable skills
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering
* Proficiency with ERP systems
* Experience with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
* Lean manufacturing/continuous improvement experience.
* Experience with CNC programming and scheduling software.
* Robotic Welding process experience.
* Detailed understanding of Design and Draft principles and concept
* Project Management experience.
* Experience in quality management, inspections, and NCR processing
