Prevention Officer Role
This is a part-time position working 38 hours per fortnight in Hedland. The role involves working Monday to Friday and offers salary packaging benefits, discounts with major health insurance providers, and access to confidential counseling services.
About the Opportunity
The primary function of this role is to liaise with government and non-government agencies, professionals, and community groups to progress community action on alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention initiatives. This involves developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based prevention strategies to reduce AOD-related harms at a local and regional level.
* Collaborate with the Mental Health Commission and other stakeholders to develop and implement prevention strategies
* Maintain accurate records of AOD prevention activities for reporting purposes
* Develop and maintain partnerships with service providers and community groups to identify local needs and ensure referral pathways
* Coordinate the regional response to Volatile Substance Use in line with MHC protocols
* Work with colleagues to develop educational and promotional strategies, campaigns, and publications for AOD prevention activities
* Research and prepare submissions and reports relating to AOD prevention programs and projects
Requirements of the Role
To be successful in this role, you will need:

* Demonstrated ability to work with health and other community groups on education, health promotion, and community AOD prevention initiatives
* Experience in or demonstrated ability to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate AOD prevention initiatives
* High level of written communication skills, including report writing
* Ability to develop and deliver training to professionals and community groups
* An understanding of the impacts of drugs and alcohol on individuals, families, and communities
* Excellent administrative and computer skills
* Excellent problem-solving skills
