Description
Service Educators are responsible for providing education and care for children enrolled at the Service, consistent with our philosophy and curriculum and according to the requirements of the National Quality Framework. Educators work in collaboration with the other Educators, Room Leaders, the Educational Leader and the Nominated Supervisor.

In respect of the Mission

In respect of Personal Faith
- Be an active member of a Christian church
- Seek regular Christian teaching and fellowship
- Pray
- Handle Centre matters with total confidentiality at all times
- Display the fruit of the Spirit in daily life as described in Galatians 5:22-23
- Participate in regular staff evaluation examining personal, spiritual and career development
In respect of Education and Care of Children
- Act in the best interests of the child
- Learn what entails a high-quality education and care curriculum in alignment with the Service philosophy, procedures and policies; Education and Care Services National Regulations; National Law; National Quality Standards; Early Years Learning Framework
- Reflect on performance as a precursor to critical reflection
- Engage children in learning opportunities that are meaningful, intentional, responsive to children’s agency and choice, routine times, information technology, and environmental sustainability
- Support the team to provide an inclusive setting by role modelling positive interactions, respecting diversity, maintaining each child’s dignity, and responding to emotional, social and wellbeing needs
- Support children’s individual wellbeing and comfort in sleep, rest and relaxation
- Contribute to developing an environment ready for operation each day
- Ensure the environment reflects children’s curiosity and problem solving, and acknowledges the indoor and outdoor environments as the ‘third teacher’
- Promote environmental sustainability
- Ensure each child has a sense of Being, Belonging and Becoming within the Service
In respect of Partnerships with Families and Community
- Demonstrate respect for families’ child-rearing practices, beliefs and role as the child’s first teacher
- Maintain professional interactions with families and confidentiality
In respect of Partnerships with other Educators and Professionals
- Support colleagues with positive and ethical communication
- Acknowledge and support personal strengths, professional experience and team diversity
- Engage in professional conversations to enhance knowledge and practice
- Support a healthy team environment and implement the program
- Keep the Nominated Supervisor informed of any problems affecting children, service approval or regulatory compliance
- Contribute to the Service’s Quality Improvement Plan and assist implementation
- Perform additional duties as required within knowledge, skills and capabilities
- Maintain supplies and equipment; perform incidental administrative duties
In respect of Professional Conduct and Learning
- Work within the National Quality Framework, the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics, and service policies
- Contribute as an effective team member
- Participate in performance appraisal and ongoing professional learning
- Attend staff meetings and professional learning events
- Undertake First Aid training (including Anaphylaxis and Asthma) as required
- Undertake approved Child Protection training as required
In respect of Organisational Staff Representation and Narnia
- Support the organisation’s philosophy, policies and procedures and represent the organisation externally
- Uphold St Philip’s Christian College vision, mission, core values and beliefs
- Uphold Narnia Early Learning values, vision and philosophy
- Work in collaboration, attend staff meetings, and uphold all policies and procedures
In respect of Workplace Health and Safety
- Work safely for self and others
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment
- Address safety issues promptly
- Follow service policies regarding child protection and child safe standards
- Inform the Nominated Supervisor of any allegations or convictions related to child protection
- Ensure compliance as a mandated reporter
- Follow service guidelines for a safe environment and emergency management procedures
- Respond to children’s additional needs (diet, allergies, development)
- Share cleaning duties fairly
- Maintain educator-to-child ratios and qualifications at all times
Essential Skills and Qualities
- A desire to work in partnership with families
- Effective communication with adults and children
- Willingness to understand Child Protection legislation and its implications
- Ability to contribute as a team member to Work, Health and Safety issues
- Willingness to support other staff in the room/centre
- Be a dynamic and supportive member of the Educators team meeting National Quality Framework standards
