Title and Summary Overview The Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI) is an economics lab powering scale at Mastercard by owning economic thought leadership to support Mastercard’s efforts to build a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy. Launched in 2020, MEI analyzes economic trends through the consumer's lens, delivering tailored insights for customers, partners, and policymakers. Composed of economists and data scientists, MEI synthesizes anonymized data from the Mastercard network and public sources to generate insights through presentations, thought leadership, media, and commercial products. About the Role We seek an economist to derive insights for Australia and support regional research in Asia Pacific. Reporting to the Chief Economist, Asia Pacific, your responsibilities include: Developing and maintaining macroeconomic views for Australia. Writing regular outlooks and research notes using unique economic data. Supporting briefing documents for leadership and advisory boards. Creating content and presenting insights at forums and industry events. Collaborating with data scientists and consulting teams on data exploration and forecasting. Driving story creation for interactive presentations. Aligning economic insights with strategic and operational goals within the region. The ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial mindset, experience in client engagement, and is innovative and proactive in driving economic initiatives in Australia. All About You Economist with MA+ in economics or related field and 5+ years of experience. Private sector experience covering the Australian economy and regional insights in Asia Pacific. Strong collaboration skills across teams. Experience with orthodox and experimental economic approaches. Ability to manage complex projects and timelines.
