Purpose The Protection and Control (P&C) Technician will be responsible for leading and executing P&C related activities across various types of projects within the Ausconnex business. They will also provide technical support to other teams in the business including engineering and delivery. The P&C Technician shall also have a technical background and be competent in Transmission and Distribution network secondary and protection design. Hands on experience executing protection relay test plans for substation commissioning and maintenance related activities is also required. Key deliverables Collaborate with development team for establishment of relay test plans for variety of protection schemes through execution of workshop bench testing. Execution of on-site protection scheme commissioning including primary and secondary injection testing. Execute system interlock verification checks (electronic and mechanical). Execution of SCADA system validation checks including equipment status, alarms, remote controls for all substation systems (primary, secondary, building services etc.) Familiarisation with Power Transformer AVR control systems including execution of commissioning checks through dedicated AVR relays or common protection IED. Familiarisation with LV ATS programming and execution of sequence of operation checks. Develop detailed maintenance plans relating to protection and control specific equipment for calibration and operational checks for a diverse range of clients. Undertake P&C related commissioning and maintenance activities on substation, BESS and renewable related HV Assets. Provide technical support to the engineering team for review of secondary, protection and communication related detailed design for construction suitability and compliance to NSP and client standards. Seek continuous improvement across the full engineering lifecycle by investigating latest developments in the industry. Prepare and review a variety of technical reports for works executed. Requirements Electrical trade qualified 10 years relevant experience with a particular focus on Transmission / Distribution Substations from 11 kV up to 330 kV. In-depth understanding of relevant standards, policies, and procedures. Experience working with various network service providers and knowledge of their respective design and construction approval procedures. Experience in successfully working in project teams, strong communication skills. Experience in design architecture and implementation of IEC 61850 standard for substation communications. Proficient with various manufacturers protection IED’s and software to develop and augment setting and configuration files. Proficient in various protection devices including electro-mechanical and digital type relays. Proficient in various SCADA implementation technologies (Zenon preferred) Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, adaptability, and leadership skills. Work environment This role involves a mix of office-based and fieldwork. Travel to project sites may be required.
