About the RoleWe’re seeking a passionate and motivated Software Engineer with a strong focus on back-end development to join a well-established team in Newcastle. You’ll work across Java‑based services, integrations, and web applications, helping deliver high‑quality solutions that support our business and customers.In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with a team of software developers and product owners to design, build, and maintain services that are reliable, secure, and easy to evolve.
Your key responsibilities will include:Writing clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices, including strong adherence to web application securityBuilding and integrating RESTful and asynchronous APIs to introduce new features and enhance existing productsCollaborating with team members through code reviews, testing, technical discussions, and knowledge sharingCollaborating with other teams to support and maintain our applicationsWorking with relational databases, including writing efficient and optimised SQLContributing to front‑end features using Vue.jsHelping modernise legacy systems and front ends using modern technologies.
Experience & Skills RequiredYou will bring 3+ years of experience in a Java-focused Software Engineering role, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications (ideally B.CompSci, B.Eng (Software), or equivalent).To succeed in this role, you will have most of the following skills and experience:Experience with Spring / Spring Boot and the broader Java ecosystemSkills writing SQL, with experience in Oracle or other relational database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)Experience integrating with third‑party APIs, including asynchronous and RESTful APIsExperience working collaboratively in a team environment, including performing code reviews and testing.An understanding of web application security principles and best practices
Ideally, you will have some experience or familiarity with:Vue.js or an equivalent front‑end framework (e.g., React, Angular)Atlassian tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, and Bamboo
