Overview

We are seeking an Events Setups Manager to be responsible for overseeing the timely and accurate setup of all event spaces in line with event orders, amendments, and floor plans. This role leads and coordinates the Setups team to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across all events, maintaining a strong focus on efficiency, attention to detail, and client satisfaction. With a hands-on approach and robust leadership, the Events Setups Manager ensures that all room configurations, equipment placements, and logistical elements are executed to specification, supporting seamless event execution from start to finish.

This role will work on a rotating 7-day roster and may require regular contact out of business hours due to the needs of the role, and client demands.

Set to open in 2026 on the Geelong Waterfront, Nyaal Banyul will be Australia’s newest convention and event centre. Operated by the Victorian Convention and Exhibition Trust (VCET), this premier venue features a 1,000-seat theatre and 3,700 square meters of versatile event space, ready to host everything from community gatherings to major conferences and entertainment events.

About the Role

- Manage the day-to-day operation of the event and venue setup, including employee rostering and supervision of daily work tasks
- Ensure compliance with venue rules and regulations, and address any on-site issues that may arise
- Ensure all team members are fully briefed and understand expectations of their roles
- Respond promptly to customer requests related to event setups and required support
- Ensure the highest housekeeping standards are always maintained, in accordance with OH&S; guidelines
- Consult with event organisers and their principal contractors to ensure effective management plans are developed and acted upon for each event to deliver an efficient and safe event setup
- Manage the relationships and collaboration with BGIS, IKON and their contractors, including the schedule of daily and weekly meetings to ensure venue operation is effective for all parties
- Undertake managerial tasks including recruitment, return to work supervision and leave management for direct reports
- Ensure all financial activity is recorded accurately and reported to the relevant departments, within required time frames
- Support with Project and Business Readiness while the venue is under construction and through opening (e.g. manuals writing, resources development)

About you

- Available to commence from mid-November 2025 and willing to travel to Melbourne to work at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for the first two months for training
- Demonstrated experience in the setup and delivery of large-scale events
- Strong people-leadership experience and capability, in particular experience leading a mid-sized casualised workforce
- Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement, accountability, and results orientation
- Proven track record of managing and delivering operations within time and budget requirements
- Proven high level customer service skills, having worked in a client /customer contact/ support environment

Highly regarded, but not essential

- Relevant qualifications in Business, Hospitality, Event Management or other suitable qualifications as well as Safety Management
- Experience with Momentus, Event and Venue Management software, rostering systems (ideally Humanforce), Safety Culture application and VectorWorks
- License to operate a Forklift Truck
- First Aid Certificate
