Location: NSW – Kariong, Beresfield or Flexible
Job Type: Full Time
Reports to: Principal Arborist (AQF5) – Arborsure Service
Help communities grow with integrity. Work with purpose.
Travers bushfire & ecology is looking for a capable and committed Arboriculture Consultant to join our collaborative, high-performing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is either already experienced or seeking the next level in their arboricultural career, working directly with and learning from our AQF5 Principal Arborist.
You’ll contribute to tree assessments, vegetation planning, and environmental approvals on diverse projects across NSW—including urban development, infrastructure, conservation, and bushfire planning contexts.
About the role
In this role, you’ll assist in the delivery of arboricultural surveys, tree risk assessments, and vegetation management planning. You’ll work across both the public and private sectors, liaising with local government, developers, infrastructure teams and ecological specialists.
You’ll be part of a supportive multidisciplinary environment that includes ecologists, bushfire consultants, archaeologists, and restoration ecologists—allowing you to grow your understanding of how trees fit into broader environmental planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake tree surveys and inspections using recognised arboricultural methods.
- Assist with preparing high-quality arborist reports, impact assessments and tree management plans.
- Work under the guidance of our Principal Arborist (AQF5) on fieldwork and reporting.
- Assist with tree risk assessments for development and infrastructure projects.
- Contribute to Vegetation Management Plans and support council and planning submissions.
- Collaborate with internal teams across bushfire, ecology, and heritage disciplines.
- Maintain accurate field data, photos and mapping, using GPS and GIS tools where appropriate.
Who We’re Looking For
You’re a practical, thoughtful and reliable arborist who wants to deliver high-quality work, collaborate across disciplines, and grow your skills under expert guidance.
You’re someone who:
- Has a strong work ethic, is goal-focused, and follows through.
- Values respect, learning and long-term growth.
- Is curious about how arboriculture interacts with ecology, planning, bushfire and heritage.
- Can work both independently and within a team workplace.
- Wants to contribute to positive community and environmental outcomes.
We’re open to those looking to step up and learn, as well as those already working at a consultant level.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum AQF Level 3 in Arboriculture (required); ideally progressing toward AQF Level 5 (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in tree assessments, field surveys and arborist reporting.
- Understanding of tree physiology, tree risk, retention values, pruning standards and impacts of development on trees.
- Knowledge of AS 4970 (Protection of Trees on Development Sites) and relevant NSW planning legislation.
- Proficiency using GPS, MS Office and basic mapping/GIS tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Current manual driver’s licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
What You’ll Get
- Work under and learn from a highly respected AQF5 Principal Arborist.
- Flexible, supportive work environment with options for hybrid work.
- Access to company vehicles, phone, laptop and field gear.
- Ongoing mentoring and pathways to achieve higher arboricultural qualifications.
- Paid training and development opportunities.
- Support from ecologists, bushfire consultants and heritage specialists.
- 24/7 Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health and wellbeing.
- Offices in Kariong (Central Coast) and Beresfield (Newcastle) with statewide projects.
- Participation in our Sustainability Offset Program —planting and habitat contributions.
