The Role - A Day in the Life of a First Nations Advisor
As the First Nations Advisor, you will drive culturally safe, community-led strategies that improve employment participation and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The role builds trusted relationships with Elders and community leaders; works closely with a small caseload of First Nation Jobseekers to identify career goals and address any barriers to employment; and partners closely with the Recruitment Team to co-design inclusive recruitment, targeted pre-employment strategies that respond to regional labour market demand and Close the Gap priorities. Operating within ETC's Employment Services program (Workforce Australia) the position ensures activities and evidence meet contract and quality requirements, provides actionable insights to regional operations on risks and opportunities, and supports sustained placements, retention and progression for First Nations Job Seekers.
This role can be based at Kempsey, Nambucca Heads or Coffs Harbour. Travel between all 3 sites is required
Your Key Responsibilities will include:
* Lead culturally safe, community-led employment strategies to increase First Nations Jobseeker participation in the regional labour market, in line with ETC's Close the Gap and RAP commitments.
* Build trusted relationships with Elders, community leaders, and local stakeholders to identify barriers and co-design solutions that support sustainable employment and training outcomes.
* Facilitate culturally appropriate engagement activities (e.g. yarning circles, group sessions, community events) to connect with First Nations jobseekers and promote ETC's services.
* Mentor and support a small caseload of First Nation Jobseekers through the employment journey, including post-placement support to improve retention and progression.
* Champion ETC's RAP and Indigenous Participation Plan by actively contributing to events, awareness campaigns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Assisting the recruitment team to identify suitable job vacancies including the hidden job market to meet employer needs.
Criteria for Success

* Aboriginality (proof of Aboriginality required). This position is identified and exempted under section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
* Demonstrated understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity and the needs of the culturally diverse population
* Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the Employment Services Industry
* Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
* Experience in the marketing and placement of long-term unemployed clients into vacancies
* Knowledge of local labour market linkages and business & community networks
* Current Drivers Licence and willingness to travel throughout the allocated region
* Current clear Working with Children Check or Blue Card (QLD) and National Police Check
