Maiem, Sew Ngapa! Welcome to the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA). TSRA is the lead Commonwealth agency for Indigenous Affairs in Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait). We’re the northernmost region of Australia, where beautiful red dirt Country meets turquoise waters. Located in the nation’s far north between Cairns and Papua New Guinea, we support programs across the Torres Strait region, including for the 17 inhabited islands of the Torres Strait and the communities of Bamaga and Seisia on the Northern Peninsula Area. We’re a federal government statutory body and operate under the direction of a community-elected board.

Our team of 150+ staff includes a strong local workforce – 84% of staff identify as Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people. Our staff code switch between English, traditional Torres Strait languages and creole. We’re one of the region’s largest employers with 3 offices on Thursday Island and 13 ranger sites, supported by a small office in Cairns. The work of the teamThe vision of the Corporate Services Team is:‘To be widely recognised as delivering high quality corporate services that provide value to our internal and external customers, supporting the TSRA to achieve outcomes for Torres Strait communities’. The Corporate Services team comprises the following functions, Information Communication Technology, Property and Human Resources and strives to deliver on key corporate outcomes:A well-managed, customer focused, fit-for-purpose portfolio of properties, resources and assets.Effective, appropriate and efficient systems and processes that support the running of TSRA business.TSRA has the best possible workforce to deliver on its outcomes and is seen as an employer of choice.Strong internal and external partnerships to ensure relevance and effectiveness of the Corporate Services team.
We are looking for individuals with:•Experience in Human ResourcesAbility to influence strategic vision and implement operational strategies to achieve outcomes.Proven ability to build productive relationships with staff, stakeholders and clients at all levels, and effectively balance complex stakeholder needs.Exceptional presentation skills and ability to represent TSRA in a range of forums.Proven communication skills include ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.Understanding of issues affecting local people – specifically in the Torres Strait region.Demonstrated capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.Experience leading a culturally diverse and geographically dispersed team, fostering collaboration, trust, and supporting staff development.Highly motivated, with a strong commitment to the Australian Public Service (APS) values.
