Precinct Bar and Restaurant is a very busy and popular venue located along the Ovens River in Wangaratta
We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate cook to work in our restaurant to help with our lunch and dinner service as rostered. You must be capable to work autonomously and with the Head Chef. You must have a can-do attitude, be a team player with great communication skills. You need to have flexibility, initiative to undertake a variety of tasks along with the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy environment. You need to have a creative approach with an eye for detail and ability to remain calm under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
* Follow established food preparation procedures and complete kitchen duties in accordance with operational guidelines
* Inspect ingredients and food supplies to ensure freshness, quality, and suitability for use
* Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, grills, and cooktops, ensuring correct temperature control
* Prepare, cook, and present menu items in line with recipes, standards, and rotational menus
* Apply appropriate seasoning and cooking techniques to achieve consistent flavor and quality
* Portion dishes accurately and present food attractively with sauces, gravies, and garnishes
* Finalize and "polish" dishes before service to ensure high presentation standards
* Store food correctly in temperature-controlled facilities to maintain food safety and quality
* Prepare meals to accommodate special dietary requirements and customer needs
* Assist with menu planning and estimating food and ingredient requirements when required
* Support the training and supervision of junior kitchen staff and apprentices when required
* Maintain clean, organized workstations and ensure kitchen areas meet hygiene standards
* Accurately complete and maintain HACCP and food safety records
* Comply with all nutrition, sanitation, workplace health and safety regulations
* Foster a positive, cooperative, and respectful working environment within the kitchen team
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
* Minimum 3 years' experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
* Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery (preferred but not essential)
* Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and safe food-handling practices
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
* Strong organizational and time-management skills
* Reliable, motivated, and able to perform well under pressure
* Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
