The Professional Services Group (PSG) provides direct support to our Executive through independent quality assurance reviews and the provision of technical audit and accounting advice. We provide vital support to auditors from all parts of the ANAO, through our management of the ANAO’s technical audit supports including audit policy, audit methodologies and guidance, and our delivery of learning and development courses. We offer timely and high-quality technical auditing and accounting advice to our auditors when they are in the field. The group provides the Auditor-General with assurance that the work of the ANAO is of a high quality and in accordance with ANAO Auditing Standards.

The opportunity

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to take your audit skills to the next level. It is an opportunity to help build policy and methodology to support the ANAO’s work and to enhance your understanding of auditing standards and their application at the forefront of public service audit work.

As a Director within the PSG Audit Technical team, you will have the opportunity to:

* Become an expert and contribute to providing important advice to ANAO’s leaders, you will have access to learning and development activities, coaching, mentoring and ANAO’s generous studies assistance policy;
* Be involved in complex and challenging audit matters including supporting the ANAO Executive to make key decisions; and
* Work across different service groups within the ANAO, including Financial Statement audit, Performance Statements audit and/or Performance audit (if desired).
The key duties of the position include:

Under the broad supervision of the Senior Director, your responsibilities as a Director within the PSG Audit Technical team will include:

* Contributing to the Group’s provision of support to the Executive and audit service groups through the delivery of technical auditing advice and reporting about audit quality, including engaging and providing advice in the conduct of individual engagements;
* Undertaking technical research, and assist in drafting and reviewing of briefing papers and reports, for the provision of expert technical advice;
* Maintaining, developing and implementing audit related policies, methodologies and guidance, forming part of the ANAO Quality Management Framework, for our internal practitioners in line with our inclusive one-ANAO policy and culture.
* Supporting professional relationships with key internal colleagues and external stakeholders including ANAO senior management, peer auditing organisations, the Department of Finance, standard-setters and professional forums;
* Assisting with planning, co-ordinating, development and delivery of technical seminars and training; and
* Oversight of the work of junior staff, including providing coaching, guidance and feedback.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for applicants who are keen to build the skills and knowledge that will support them as a future audit and assurance leader. Your capability will be enhanced through a combination of learning and development activities and on-the-job-coaching. Further, ANAO Studies Assistance is available to support the achievement of accounting and other qualifications.

The successful candidate will have the following:

* Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and presentation skills;
* Experience in auditing, reporting frameworks, research, evaluation, training or other relevant areas;
* A commitment to delivering high quality outputs, and exercise autonomy and responsibility under broad guidance;
* Experience working within a team and willingness to work collaboratively across different teams/service groups;
* The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and
* The ability to establish positive working relationships with team members and stakeholders.

Please note:

* This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended.
* A merit pool will be created from this activity that may be used to fill similar vacancies for a period of 18 months from the date of advertising.
* All positions are based in Canberra, with flexible working arrangements where the employee works partly in the office and partly from home, as agreed with the manager.
Eligibility

Desirable qualifications

There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/ or experience in commerce, governance, accounting or audit are highly desirable.

Eligibility

Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the ANAO, applicants must be an Australian citizen.

Security Clearance – The Australian community requires the highest level of integrity from ANAO employees. The preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Baseline clearance level. The 'Auditor-General Act 1997' provides the legislative framework for the role of the Auditor-General and the ANAO. The Executive is accountable to Parliament for its use of public resources and the administration of legislation passed by the Parliament. The Auditor-General scrutinises and provides independent assurance as to whether the Executive is operating and accounting for its performance in accordance with Parliament’s purpose.
