The Role
Ministerial and Executive Coordination and Communication Division (MECC) are looking to fill several EL2 Director Governance/Administration vacancies. Reporting to an Assistant Secretary, you will contribute to the delivery of Ministerial, whole-of-government and Defence objectives.
The Strategic Priorities Branch supports the Deputy Secretary Governance to improve the quality, responsiveness and relevance of departmental advice to Defence portfolio ministers and their offices. Their goal is to strengthen decision-making across the organisation.
The Ministerial, Parliamentary and Cabinet (MPC) Branch plays an important role in ensuring the Government, and the Defence Portfolio Ministers, are appropriately supported on matters relating to Defence.
MPC is the conduit for coordinating, educating and guiding Defence to fulfil these obligations. MPC facilitates the provision of best practice advice and services to the Australian Parliament, Ministers and the Defence Senior Executive. A merit list will be created to fill future vacancies.
About our Team
MECC Division within Governance Group is the central interface between the Defence organisation, Defence Portfolio Ministers, the Government, the Parliament, media organisations and the public. We work collaboratively with Defence Groups and Services to ensure the Department is providing high quality, coordinated and timely advice. MECC Division is responsible for overseeing Ministerial, Parliamentary and Cabinet processes, Freedom of Information, as well as strategic and internal communications and media functions.

These roles perform key leadership functions within MECC, overseeing staff, managing resources, setting priorities and delivering strategic advice to support organisational objectives.
Our ideal candidates are experienced and strategic forward thinkers, capable of leading and shaping initiatives across Defence. They bring a strong understanding of the Defence strategic environment, coupled with a demonstrated ability to work independently to assess, adapt and drive high-level policy, planning and stakeholder engagement activities.
