About the role
The Manager, Rural Appraisals role sits within the Collateral Risk Team (CRT) which has the responsibility of monitoring and managing all aspects of the risks associated with the Banks collateral portfolio. The primary function for the management of this collateral risk is the determination of the market value of all assets that the Bank holds a mortgage over for the provision of loans. The Manager, Rural Valuations (RV) has the responsibility of providing a regular, independent and consistent assessment, and where required an oversight and review, of the value of collateral held by to the Bank.
The responsibility of determining the market values of collateral iserned through a valuation process closely aligned to the relevant property valuation bodies (Australian Property Institute, Property Institute NZ, International Valuation Standards). The CRT team is required to provide stakeholders within the bank with portfolio information, collateral risk reports, climate and environmental impacts and a quality assurance process that monitors all aspects of the appraisal and valuation functions.
Top responsibilities and accountabilities:
1. Conducting physical property inspections or generate virtual property reports as required
2. Providing review and oversight of any collateral valued external to the CRT team prior to it being used for mortgage purposes
3. Operating as subject matter experts in the emerging rural markets such as carbon, biodiversity and renewable energy the appraisal of such assets / contacts.
4. Develop key stakeholder knowledge and understanding of land valuation drivers, the physical property inspection and of local regional and national rural markets.
5. Understand the impact of climate and environmental factors and integrate into the appraisal process and provide regional/sector property reports and market analysis when required
6. Identifying and reporting on client, region and/or sectors that may be experiencing deteriorating property values.
To be successful in the role, it is desirable but not essential that you have any of the following:
7. Degree in Property, Agriculture or Finance or related discipline
8. Qualified as a Registered Valuer / Certified Practicing Valuer
9. Prior experience in the valuation of rural assets or as an Agribusiness manager or rural credit approval
10. Sound knowledge of the rural and agribusiness environments in Australia
11. Awareness of climate and environmental challenges and impacts on agriculture
