About the role

Make a real impact in suicide prevention and mental health support across the building and construction industry. As a Field Officer / Case Manager with MATES in Construction, you'll deliver suicide awareness and prevention programs, build connections on site, and provide practical pathways to help and support for those who may be doing it tough.

In this hands‑on role, you'll facilitate training sessions, visit worksites regularly, and lead community development initiatives that encourage open conversations and strengthen wellbeing across the sector.

Whether you're a recent Social Work or Psychology graduate or an experienced professional looking to apply your skills in suicide prevention and community engagement, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.


Duties & Responsibilities

* Deliver the MATES program on construction worksites as well as other MATES industries as appropriate
* Promoting the MATES in Construction program across industry
* Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders at new and existing sites to promote the MATES program
* Build and support volunteer networks on site such as connectors and ASIST workers
* Schedule, coordinate and deliver training programs for workers in suicide prevention at sites across the Northern Territory
* Support construction workers who are struggling and connect them to appropriate supports
* Providing short-term case management to workers using a brokerage model
* Refer workers to existing workplace services (for example, EAP) or other community services
* Provide on-site support through critical incident and/or postvention response


Skills & Experience required

* You must currently reside in, or be willing to relocate to Darwin
* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or Psychology are essential, and registration (or ability to gain this) with relevant professional body (AASW or AHPRA)
* Genuine interest in raising awareness about suicide prevention and mental health in the building and construction industry
* Ability to deliver programs effectively and be comfortable speaking and presenting to groups
* A flexible and mature mindset, along with a calm, even‑measured approach to working in a reactive environment
* The ability to work autonomously and manage your own priorities
