Responsibilities
- Developing, managing and monitoring IT budgets ensuring alignment with agency and divisional priorities
- Preparing financial forecasts and facilitate the agency’s annual bottom‑up budget build and mid‑year review processes.
- Tracking and reporting on IT expenditure, identifying risks and opportunities
- Implementing controls and governance for IT spending, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value for money
- Leveraging existing financial operations (FinOps) capabilities to support the management of cloud computing costs and maximise business value from digital investments
- Preparing financial presentations for senior executives and stakeholders
- Providing detailed financial analysis and advice to support decision making and the preparation of executive and governance committee papers.
- Consolidating and analysing existing financial data including budgets, journal records, and related documents to support analytical and financial reviews for CIOD.
- Optimising license and maintenance fees by eliminating redundant or underutilised tools, and by identifying opportunities to consolidate vendor licences and renegotiate agreements.
- Assisting the exploration and implementation of innovations or composable architectures to optimise the cost of operating and hosting technologies.
- Informing IT purchasing and procurement activities through the analysis and summarising of current financial position
- Liaising with the programmes finance teams and team within the central Enabling & Regulating Group, to progress critical financial management and budget activities.
- Performing additional responsibilities as required and directed by the Director, IT SPG&M;
Selection Criteria
- Experience dealing with Public Service financial data.
- Strong cost accounting experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident dealing with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to solve complex financial issues and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and experience using budgeting, forecasting and reporting tools.
- Advanced computer software skills, including advanced Excel and other accounting packages.
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or in a related discipline and 5+ years’ experience in an accountancy role.
- Professional accounting qualification such as CA or CPA preferred.
- Experience with ICT procurement, expense management, and budget management in a federal government context.
