Remote / Hybrid - Melbourne
Who are we?
An established and growing health organisation is looking to appoint a Senior Payroll Officer to take ownership of their payroll function, while supporting a small amount of accounts payable activity.
With 400 employees nationally and systems already well embedded, this is a steady‐state environment where you'll focus on accuracy, compliance and stakeholder engagement.
You'll step into a well‐supported team, working alongside finance, P&C and an offshore resource, with the opportunity to truly own payroll.
Who are you?
You enjoy owning payroll end‐to‐end and aren't afraid to stay hands‐on. You take pride in accuracy, can confidently sense‐check outputs, and are the go‐to for payroll queries. Calm, approachable, and collaborative, you value a people‐first environment where relationships matter as much as technical skill.
Day to day
No two days will look exactly the same, but your responsibilities will include:
* Own and run the end‐to‐end payroll cycle (fortnightly)
* Supervise and support a junior offshore payroll support (great opportunity for an aspiring people leader!)
* Ensure payroll accuracy, compliance and timely delivery
* Sense‐check payroll outputs and resolve discrepancies
* Partner closely with P&C on payroll‐related queries
* Process allowances, reimbursements and leave data
* Support weekly accounts payable processing
* Assist with payroll tax, super, WorkCover and compliance obligations
* Contribute to month‐end activities and reporting
What is in your toolkit?
Must‐haves:
* Strong understanding of payroll compliance
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies
* Comfortable working in a hands‐on, standalone‐style role
Nice‐to‐haves:
* Exposure to Xero or similar systems
* Some exposure to accounts payable
Why This Role?
* Own payroll in a well‐structured environment
* Opportunity to provide leadership to a junior off‐shore resource, perfect for someone looking to build leadership experience
* Flexibility with remote working (occasional days in Northcote, if Melbourne based, to be amongst the team!)
* Supportive, values‐driven culture (genuinely nice people)
* Stable business with recent system and integration work completed
* Opportunity to step into a lead role without heavy people management
This is a great opportunity to step into a true ownership role within a supportive and flexible environment, where you'll play a key part in keeping payroll running smoothly across a growing national business.
