A globally networked system of cold stores, nitrogen tanks, cold chains, and climate-controlled rooms sustains the global use of artificial cold, significantly restructuring biological and social life. Despite its far-reaching effects, this planetary "cryosphere" has not been systematically researched. This interdisciplinary project aims to critically analyze this complex phenomenon and explore sustainable alternatives for managing artificial cold.The CultCryo project involves four international research groups at the Technical University of Darmstadt, the University of Paderborn, the University of Duisburg-Essen, and the Australian National University Canberra, along with three project partners at the University of Hamburg, the University of Halle-Wittenberg, and the Institute for Social-Ecological Research Frankfurt. It has a total budget of 10 million euros.Position overviewYour role as project manager will be to lead the operational management of the research team at ANU, coordinate collaboration among the four PIs, international research teams, and university administrations, and provide strategic and administrative support for the project. You will oversee organizational and financial aspects of the ERC’s requirements and liaise with scientific, administrative, publishing, and financial stakeholders.You will work closely with the head project manager of CultCryo in Darmstadt, Germany. Your primary focus will be managing the ethnographic research team at ANU, which conducts fieldwork in various global regions, and coordinating project activities in Australia.Your profileRequired skills include project and budget management, coordination, effective communication, and stakeholder relationship building, as outlined in the Selection Criteria and the Position Description.
