The Opportunity
We are seeking a suitably qualified Independent Member to join our Audit and Risk Committee, commencing soon.
The Committee supports our long-term plan by providing oversight and advice on strategic risks and assurance activities.
In order to build a city that is fair, thriving, connected, green and beautiful, the Committee ensures legislative requirements for risk and governance are met across services delivered.
The Committee provides oversight of Council's assurance processes and assistance in areas of risk, financial management, audit, compliance and corporate governance.
Committee members collectively hold a broad skillset including public sector experience, risk, financial management, audit, compliance, corporate governance and cyber security expertise.
Key Selection Criteria:
* Hold relevant professional qualifications and experience in at least one of the Committee's areas of responsibility.
* Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of local government and the expectations and role of the Committee.
* Demonstrate knowledge of legislative, regulatory and industry standards applicable to government agencies and/or large business enterprises.
* Understand current and emerging risks and best practice control strategies relevant to Victorian local government agencies.
* Have experience working in a complex organisation at a senior level with demonstrated business acumen.
* Demonstrate high-level communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work constructively as a member of the Committee.
* Demonstrate independence of mind, including the ability to constructively ask the 'hard' questions when necessary.
* Have strong ethical values, sense of integrity and the ability to enquire and give direct and honest opinions that promote best practice.
* Be independent from Council's operations and able to attend meetings in person at a designated location.
