Lucinda Bulk Sugar Terminal Operator
About Queensland Sugar Limited (QSL). QSL is Australia's largest and most experienced provider of raw sugar marketing and logistics services. Owned by the industry we serve and committed to creating a world-leading Queensland sugarcane industry which not only contributes significantly to Queensland's state economy but underpins flourishing regional communities.
QSL has a strong safety culture and our people take pride in our values, diverse work opportunities, and inclusive culture. QSL's customers and partners value our reliability and innovation, and this drives QSL's passion to deliver on customer needs and to exceed expectations. Equally, QSL is committed to being a sustainable partner for the sugar industry at a grassroots level, supporting local communities and stakeholders, and actively managing our operating environment.
The role is based at the Lucinda Bulk Sugar Terminal.
About the Role
QSL's Operations Division plays a vital role in supporting Queensland's sugar industry, providing dependable storage, shipping, and logistics services across six bulk sugar terminals.
We're currently seeking a skilled and motivated Operator to join our team in Lucinda. This is a permanent position, working a 9-day fortnight. This hands-on position is essential to the smooth and safe operation of our bulk materials handling facilities.
As an Operator, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining plant equipment, including conveyors, hoppers, hydraulic systems, and mobile machinery. The role also involves warehousing duties, plant cleaning and water blasting, and supporting maintenance tasks across both mobile and fixed plant.
Your ability to work collaboratively with mechanical and electrical tradespeople will be key to ensuring reliable plant performance and efficient operations.
Experience in mechanical, electrical, or construction trades—or prior work with materials handling systems and heavy mobile equipment such as loaders and excavators—will be highly regarded. A trade qualification in mechanical or electrical disciplines would be advantageous but not essential, as hands-on experience and a strong safety mindset are equally valued at QSL.
A significant part of the role involves using a computer-based automated control system to receive raw sugar into the facility and manage product flow. Familiarity with similar systems or control panels will be advantageous. Additionally, you may be involved in loading shipping vessels, so previous ship-loading experience is a plus.
This is a hands-on operational role that requires availability to work both 24/7 rotating shift work during the sugar industries annual crushing season, and non-continuous shift work throughout the year, both involving working on public holidays and weekends.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to QSL-wide initiatives such as safety leadership programs and business improvement projects.
About You
You align strongly with QSL's Core Values and take pride in working safely, collaboratively, and with a continuous improvement mindset. You are self-motivated, dependable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
To be successful, you'll bring:
* Sound computer literacy and attention to detail
* A proactive, positive attitude with a focus on safety and teamwork
* The ability to operate unsupervised and make sound operational decisions
* Previous experience in bulk materials handling or ship loading (desirable)
* Experience operating mobile equipment such as front-end loaders or excavators (desirable)
* Relevant high-risk work licences (advantageous)
At QSL, you'll join a team that takes pride in delivering quality outcomes for the sugar industry while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and teamwork
