Consult Australia is the industry association representing Australia's design, advisory and engineering consulting sector. The organisation advocates for a better business environment across procurement, productivity and people, supporting members to succeed across their industry, business and careers.
Consult Australia plays a key role in engaging with Defence, government and industry leaders to support and influence major Defence and infrastructure programs across Australia.
Revise has partnered with Consult Australia to recruit a newly created Defence Engagement & Government Relations Manager, playing a critical role in delivering a key strategic priority for the organisation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Policy and Government Relations and working closely with the CEO, the Defence Engagement & Government Relations Manager is responsible for leading Consult Australia's strategy, advocacy and engagement across the Defence sector.
This is a high-impact role focused on building deep relationships with Defence agencies, Ministers' offices, state and territory Defence bodies, and key industry stakeholders. You will lead member-driven advocacy, influence policy and procurement outcomes, and deliver Consult Australia's flagship Defence engagement events, including the annual CollabX Conference.
The role can be based in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide, with regular national engagement and some travel.
About the Person
This role will suit a senior ministerial advisor, government relations professional or consultant within the defence sector. The successful applicant will have a strong exposure to Defence, infrastructure, engineering, construction or consulting environments.
You may come from a peak body, industry association, government, Defence, consultancy or advisory background and are confident operating at senior levels across both public and private sectors. You are strategic, politically astute, member-centric and comfortable influencing complex policy and procurement environments.
Experience working with associations or peak bodies and engaging on Defence or large-scale infrastructure matters will be highly regarded.
Duties
* Lead Consult Australia's Defence sector advocacy and policy agenda
* Build and maintain senior relationships across Defence agencies, Ministers' offices and industry
* Drive member-led policy positions and facilitate Defence working groups and roundtables
* Deliver quarterly Defence Roundtables and Defence-Industry Collab Meetings
* Act as secretariat for Defence Roundtables and Defence-Industry Collab Meetings, including agendas, coordination and follow-up
* Develop and deliver the Defence program for the annual CollabX Conference
* Facilitate high-level meetings between members and Defence stakeholders nationally
* Monitor Defence policy, announcements and procurement developments
Skills / Experience
* Strong understanding of Defence, infrastructure, engineering or consulting sectors
* Demonstrated experience in advocacy, government relations or Defence engagement
* Proven ability to influence senior government and industry stakeholders
* Experience working with or for associations, peak bodies or member-based organisations
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Highly organised, strategic and comfortable working autonomously
* Ability to manage complex stakeholder environments and competing priorities
