Generalist lawyer – family, property, wills

Ballarat
Ballarat Lawyers
Lawyer
Posted: 26 November
Offer description

Sick of billing 6.5 hours a day just to feel like a robot in a suit?

You didn't become a lawyer to chase KPIs, rewrite advice notes for partners who never open them, or sit through five layers of approvals just to offer advice to a client.

You became a lawyer to help people — to walk someone through the ugliest day of their life and make it less brutal, to fight when it matters and settle when it's smart, to bring order to chaos and clarity to confusion.

You've already done that.

You've settled messy separations that looked impossible, you've managed conveyancing deals with five moving parts and two anxious parties, you've written wills that made someone cry with relief, not stress, and you've done it all with grace, pace, and professionalism — even when the other side was throwing bombs.

But now?

Maybe the current gig's lost its spark.

Maybe the culture's toxic.

Maybe it's not bad — it's just beige.

Or maybe it's just not you anymore.

And you're not here to coast. You want depth, meaning, progress, and a team that backs you without breathing down your neck.

If that's sounding familiar, we should talk.

About us

We are Ballarat Lawyers.

Not big law. Not buzzword "boutique". Just real lawyers doing real work with real people.

We help families navigate separation, buy homes and finalise estates, and make smart, informed decisions in the middle of life's mess.

We don't do fake values, court theatre, or 10-step chains of command. We don't believe in wasting time, talent, or people.

We do believe in:

* straight talk
* clean files and proper service
* human connection
* getting people from crisis to calm with their dignity intact

We've been around for 8 years, with a loyal client base and a team of down-to-earth professionals who actually like working together.

Our office vibe? Warm, honest, focused — and allergic to bull.

Why you'll love it here

* You'll do real law – not busywork, not fluff, not performative complexity.
* You'll be trusted – you'll own your files, shape your role, and ask for help when you need it.
* You'll grow – we back initiative, hunger, and curiosity with real mentorship and support.
* You'll be seen – we value EQ as much as IQ; who you are matters here.
* You'll breathe – regional pace, no nightmare city commute, and actual lunch breaks.
* You'll go home proud – the work matters here, and so will your presence.
-----------------------------------

About the role

This is a hands-on role for a grounded generalist lawyer. You'll carry your own files with support around you and be trusted to use your judgment.

Your work will span:

Family Law

* Parenting and property matters
* Divorce
* Binding financial agreements
* Child support
* Intervention orders

Property Law / Conveyancing

* Residential and commercial conveyancing
* Contracts, advice, and negotiations
* Settlements
* Leases

Wills & Estates

* Wills
* Powers of Attorney
* Advanced care directives
* Probate
* Estate administration

You'll also:

* attend court, mediations, and negotiations when needed
* manage files in Smokeball (our practice management software)
* keep your time, tasks, and billing sharp
* be a steady, reliable voice for your clients and a calm presence for the team
-----------------------------------

Who this is for

* You have at least 1 year post-admission experience as a lawyer.
* You're admitted in Australia and comfortable working across family, property and wills/estates (or keen and capable to grow into all three).
* You're confident in the work but humble in your attitude.
* You take ownership and follow through.
* You communicate like a real human, not a template.
* You bring the calm when things get messy.

This isn't for someone who:

* needs constant handholding
* wants their ego stroked more than they want to grow
* enjoys arguing for sport

This is for someone who wants to do excellent work, grow in the right environment, and feel genuinely proud of what they do.
