We are actively sourcing for a new Commercial Manager in the Utilities team. This role will be reporting to the Commercial Manager - ANZ Operations and will be responsible for a variety of projects and programs across the Utilities business by engaging and coordinating a team who will undertake commercial, governance (TDS), risk management, legal, finance and procurement activities from pre-contract to handover, through delivery to project closeout in accordance with the Downer Standard.
**ABOUT THE ROLE**
Commercial Manager will have leadership and accountability of the Commercial and Contracts team on contracts and projects, acting as the initial escalation point for commercial, contract, legal, financial, risk, governance and project requirements.
The position will provide comprehensive and detailed commercial advice in a collaborative and strategic manner for tenders, contract delivery issues, subcontractors, performance management, project risk management and performance management.
Leading the team and providing mentoring and coaching on Commercial elements in order to upskill, develop and expand the commercial capability within the allocated program of work.
The role is performed to ensure compliance with Downer's policies and procedures.
**ABOUT YOU**
- A tertiary / post-graduate qualification in Commercial / Contract Management or related discipline (e.g. finance, contract law, etc.) is preferred.
- A minimum of five years' experience in the construction industry (or related areas), and five years in a related role would be beneficial.
- Understanding of the broader Utilities sector would be beneficial;
- Demonstrated commercial acumen and awareness, with an emphasis working collaboratively and building strong relationships.
- Experience working in a collaborative & relationship-based client environment.
- Understanding of the Australian construction market and its forms of contract;
- Background in the successful negotiation of forms of contract with an acceptable risk profile in accordance with policies and procedures;
- Ability to develop and implement effective commercial strategies on major bids
- Understanding of the Australian construction market and its forms of contract.

- Demonstrated experience in coaching/mentoring of team members.
- Background in leadership of complex and comprehensive commercial teams.
