We're Hiring: Data Engineer
Location: Grenfell Street, Adelaide, SA
Work Model: 5 days per week in the office
Travel Required: Adelaide, Broken Hill & Dominican Republic
Rate: $800–$1,000 per day, 6 month daily rate contract view to extend or becoming permanent
Our client is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms that power business intelligence, reporting, and advanced analytics across our operations.
This is a hands-on role where you'll work closely with the Data Architect and Data Analyst, ensuring high-quality, reliable data is available across the organisation.
About the Role
As a Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design, construction, and optimisation of data pipelines, data warehouses, and data infrastructure. You'll play a critical role in ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and secure, supporting data-driven decision-making across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline & Infrastructure Development
Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines from multiple data sources.
Develop and manage data lakes and data warehouses for performance and security.
Automate data ingestion and transformation for both real-time and batch workloads.
Data Quality, Cleansing & Testing
Implement automated data validation, cleansing, and reconciliation processes.
Design and execute robust data testing strategies across the data lifecycle.
Establish monitoring and alerting to proactively identify data quality issues.
Collaboration & Architecture Support
Work closely with the Data Analyst to optimise data models for reporting and visualisation.
Collaborate with the Data Architect to implement data governance and architectural standards.
Support new technology deployments, upgrades, and data source integrations.
Technical Support & Documentation
Act as a subject matter expert for data pipelines and databases.
Create and maintain clear technical documentation for data systems and processes.
Communication & Data Culture
Communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Contribute to uplifting data capability and data-driven culture.
Travel
Travel to sites in Adelaide, Broken Hill, and the Dominican Republic to support data projects.
Key Skills & Competencies
Data Modelling & Databases: Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases and data warehousing.
Programming: Proficiency in Python or Java for data pipelines and automation.
Cloud: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (ADF, Synapse, Databricks).
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Attention to Detail: Ability to write clean, well-documented, reliable code.
Collaboration: Comfortable working with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
4+ years' experience in a Data Engineer or similar role.
Proven experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
Strong SQL skills and solid understanding of data warehousing concepts.
Hands-on experience with Azure and Databricks.
Desirable
Experience in mining or a similar industrial environment.
Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate.
Experience with Big Data technologies (Spark, Hadoop).
