Reporting directly to the Dealer Principal, this full-time 'hands on' position is one in which you will observe processes from start to conclusion.
The Dealership Accountant is responsible for managing all daily financial operations of the dealership, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and overseeing the overall administration and performance of the accounting department.
This role provides timely financial insights to management, ensures compliance with internal controls and external requirements, and supports efficient dealership operations across all departments (New, Used, Service, Parts, Finance & Insurance).
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop the administration team.
Oversee end-to-end financial operations including accounts, cashflow, statutory compliance, monthly and KPI reporting.
Drive timely and accurate month-end results to support performance management and improvement initiatives.
Monitor costs and payments, ensuring all returns and obligations are completed correctly and on time.
Partner with department managers to improve processes, controls, and business performance.
Support the Dealer Principal with HR-related functions and broader operational discussions.
Contribute to long-term planning and growth strategies across all dealership areas.
About You
Understanding integrated business systems from source to General Ledger.
Proven experience in an accounting role; dealership or accounting controller experience highly regarded but not essential.
Strong understanding of financial accounting, budgeting, forecasting, tax, and statutory returns.
Confident building positive working relationships across departments.
Comfortable improving processes, driving efficiency, and supporting digital transformation.
Excellent communication, organisation, and time-management and memory skills.
Motor Dealership experience an advantage but not essential.
Tertiary qualifications in accounting (CPA/CA advantageous but not essential with strong dealership experience).
