The Role
The EL 2 Director Enabling Support - Army is a senior leadership role responsible for coordinating Army’s enabling support requirements across estate, infrastructure, environmental, and domestic security domains. The position provides authoritative, strategic advice to senior leaders including the Chief of Army, Deputy Chief of Army and Head Land Capability, on enabling support effects and their implications for capability, readiness, and long term planning.
The role represents Army at key Security and Estate Group forums, State and Territory Consultative Forums, and senior stakeholder meetings, ensuring Army’s interests are clearly articulated and embedded in Defence-wide decisions.
The Director leads Army’s engagement with enabling groups, drives policy development, aligns requirements across the Capability Life Cycle, and coordinates enabling inputs to major programs. This position requires high level judgement, strong stakeholder leadership, and the ability to shape strategic outcomes across Defence. The Director also provides direct support and advice to Director General Logistics - Army and other AHQ senior leaders.

The Directorate of Enabling Support - Army (DES A) is responsible for shaping and coordinating the enabling effects that underpin Army capability. The team works across the full spectrum of estate planning, infrastructure management, environmental stewardship, training area management, and domestic security considerations to ensure Army can train, operate, and sustain capability effectively. DES-A partners closely with Security & Estate Group, Functional Commands and other services to align enabling functions with Army’s strategic objectives.
