Overview
Lead IoT Engineer (PCB Design and Firmware) – Thailand Insurance Institute – Balcatta WA
Lead IoT Engineer (PCB Design and Firmware)
Signal is a proudly Western Australian technology company that has successfully dethroned global giants in the commercial irrigation sector. Our SDS Series controllers manage over 3,000 commercial sites, from government parks to stadiums. Our products win on pure technical merit, offering unprecedented remote control and patented two-wire intelligence.
We are looking for two elite engineers to deliver our vision for the next generation control systems. While we are ideally looking for "full-spectrum" Hardware + Firmware engineers, we encourage specialists of either field to please submit their application, making their strengths clear in a covering letter or resume opening.
The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled IoT Engineer to lead development on our next-generation control system hardware. Our devices are complex, highly concurrent machines designed for heavy-duty monitoring and control, simultaneously running multiple background functions.
You will work semi-autonomously, in close partnership with our backend cloud engineer, to ensure our physical hardware communicates flawlessly with the SignalCloud platform's advanced analytics and automation engines.
What You Will Do
Hardware Architecture & PCB Design: Confidently own the end-to-end hardware design without assistance. You will design and route complex microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, PIC32, PIC18F) with a proven track record of timely delivery to manufacturing.
Architect Concurrent Firmware: Design robust firmware using RTOS to handle simultaneous, timing-critical tasks (PWM, current syncing, sensor polling) without missing a single microsecond.
Master the Two-Wire Path: Leverage your solid understanding of two-wire, decoder-based systems and PWM current-syncing control to drive our core, patented technology.
Drive Connectivity: Manage telemetry across Cellular (4G), Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, utilizing protocols like MQTT for background data and WebSockets for sub-second, live-streaming UI control.
Pioneer New Tech: Lead the integration of new wireless technologies (LoRa/sub-GHz) into our existing two-wire infrastructure.
What We Need From You
Expertise in C/C++ for embedded systems.
Experienced PCB Designer capable of taking a board from schematic to production independently.
Deep knowledge of RTOS and writing non-blocking, interrupt-driven code.
Proven experience with IoT connectivity (Ethernet, Cellular modems, Wi-Fi, BLE, MQTT).
A strong grasp of timing-based systems and hardware-level communication (I2C, SPI, UART).
Bonus: Experience with two-wire systems, industrial power management, and LoRa.
Why Signal?
You will not be a cog in a massive corporate machine. You will be a core player in a lean, highly successful team making decisions in minutes, not months. We offer a true engineering playground where your code and hardware designs directly impact water conservation, power usage, and smart-city concepts on a massive scale.
(Please note: Previous applicants are still under consideration for these roles)
